[0:38] Nicki and Kate welcome everyone to the show and share the topic of the episode which is how to remain focused on growing your copy career! But, this isn’t day to day focus, this is a broad focus on your copywriting business and your copywriting skills.
[2:00] Nicki notes that she sees a lot of people get started and as soon as they start to gain traction in their business, they feel the need to expand their services. But, this isn’t necessary to grow your copywriting business and is actually not a great idea for the health of your copywriting business.
[6:03] Kate remarks that sometimes splitting your focus and thinking of other services to offer is a sneaky form of resistance. It’s not easy to stay patient and only focus on copywriting, but splitting your focus in other directions will only hold your copywriting career back.
[8:05] Even if a client asks you to provide a service outside of copywriting, it doesn’t mean you need to go and learn that skill! When this happens, you need to explain what services you do provide as a copywriter and stick with those.
[11:57] The key to success is to focus on one goal, and to continually focus on that goal until you get there. The second you stray off of that path, you delay yourself from realizing that goal.
[15:09] Nothing is as simple as it sounds and it’s impossible to effectively add another service and maintain your focus on your copywriting business. It may sound simple beforehand, but the harsh truth is that you’ll hold yourself back by trying to do too much at once.
[19:12] Kate reminds us that the same principle of focusing on one thing at a time applies to your day-to-day work. Just like your career, you need to focus on one project at a time until you’ve completed it.
[21:37] Even if you’re an expert in copywriting fundamentals, you can always improve your writing, and there will always be new mediums to learn. You can never completely master copywriting, and there’s always a new level to achieve!
[22:20] Nicki and Kate wrap the episode with the reminder to pick your goal, and stick with it! You must continue to take action toward that goal in order to reach it.
