A Sneak Peek at the Episode

[0:47] Nicki explains that this episode will hit on today’s global economy and how it relates to you as a copywriter. Spoiler alert: it probably doesn’t have the effect you think it does.

[2:07] Nicki mentions that any kind of uncertainty or turmoil in the economy can cause panic throughout society. But, as a copywriter, there’s no need to panic because businesses actually need you more throughout difficult economic times.

[4:52] Nicki illustrates that during stressful economic times, businesses get hyper-focused on selling, which in turn means they are hyper-focused on their messaging. This means that during these times, businesses regularly bring in freelance copywriters to refine their messaging.

[8:07] Kate points out that copywriters can start to feel like there’s less opportunity during times of economic struggle. But, this is one of those beliefs that’s simply not true. Don’t be afraid to pitch during tough times, businesses need you and need your services during tough times more than any other time.

[11:59] Kate shares her personal experience working as a freelancer through the first year of the pandemic in 2020. Even though it was such an uncertain time, Kate had her best year as a freelance copywriter yet and hit multiple six figures!

[14:36] Nicki reminds us that the news is designed to convey information in a way that elicits as much emotion as possible. So, don’t get caught up in fear or shock by watching the news, but spend your energy taking action instead!

[16:07] Nicki wraps up the episode and gives the tip to try to see things from a slightly different perspective and to take action when you feel uncertain. Copywriter’s don’t have to experience the ups and downs that other industries do, so be prepared to take on the extra opportunity that uncertain times present!
