Ep. 134: Keep Copywriting Fun: 3 Must-Implement Business Boundaries

By Nicki Krawczyk

Copywriting is a super fun career. But, occasionally, you’ll notice you have no time in your schedule, you’re super stressed, and you’re wondering what happened to the “fun.” Sound familiar? It’s very likely you’re moving your business boundaries—or you never implemented them in the first place.

Nicki and Kate dig in to business rules you need to create in three areas: your no-lower-than rate, your OOO rules, and your game plan for celebrating wins big and small.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode

[4:02] These three rules are so important because they are how you stay healthy and happy in your business.

[5:00] You have a copywriting rate in mind, but in addition to that number you need a “No Lower Than” rate.

[8:05] Think in terms of setting larger rules that are very, very simple to follow.

[13:00] At the beginning of the year decide how many weeks of vacation you are going to take and what Holidays you will have off. You have to set those boundaries so clients will respect them.

[15:30] Your brain needs a break in order to operate at its highest abilities.

[18:00] Be aware of your schedule and don’t beat yourself up for having limited time in a day.

[26:40] Celebrate it. It should be a rule that as much as, as we, we have rules for our business, we have boundaries. It should be a rule that you celebrate the good things.

[29:30] It’s your job to take good care of yourself and to recognize yourself and protect yourself

Must-Hear Takeaways

As with every episode, we highly encourage you to listen to the entire conversation! But here are a few of the highlights:

“We’re talking about rules that are going to allow you to build your career and rules that are going to allow you to take care of yourself since you are the most important element in your entire business.” – Nicki

“These should be very individual to you and what you want out of your business and how you want your life to look and how you want your business to interact with your life and have those two things work together.” – Nicki

“You have the skills to find work at any time, you have the pitching and the follow-up skills to always control that you have new clients coming in.” Nicki

“If you set and enforce those boundaries then your client’s will respect them.” – Kate

“What are you going to do to celebrate each of the milestones along the way and, again, write it out and have it written down so that you’re like ‘oh yeah I did this, I’m going to do ___’ whatever your win is. Not only is that motivating to keep you going, to be like ‘I hit this milestone on the way to my bigger goal,’ you deserve to celebrate each of those wins.” – Kate
